Nokia lumia 1020: specifications

Nokia confirms the Lumia 1020, a cameraphone that offers 41-megapixel photos on the Windows Phone operating system.

Nokia's newest handset places great emphasis on its photographic capabilities, boasting a second generation 41-megapixel sensor, and available in a choice of yellow, white or black.

It claims to 'reinvent zoom, enabling people to discover more detail than the eye can see' due to its PureView technology. Deploying features such as optical image stabilisation, the device claims to be able to produce some of the sharpest images possible on any digital camera.

A similar device, the Pureview 808, launched last year, but ran on the now defunct Symbian operating system.

The Lumia 1020 includes a new application called Nokia Pro Camera, designed to make it easy for anyone to take professional quality images. Either before a picture is taken or after it has been shot, the user can see how the zoom capability and the chosen settings will affect the final photo or video.

Another new feature is dual capture, which simultaneously takes a high resolution 38-megapixel image to set aside for editing, and creates a 5-megapixel picture to share to social networks via Windows Phone 8.

The 41 megapixel sensor features Zeiss optics and a choice of six physical lenses, plus optical image stabilisation, claiming to deliver crystal clear pictures even in low light conditions. It also captures blur-free videos with stereo sound even at the loudest concerts due to Nokia Rich Recording, designed to handle sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones.

Stephen Elop, President and CEO of Nokia said: “We want to take people on a journey from capturing pictures to recording and sharing their lives. The Nokia Lumia 1020 will bring new meaning to pictures and continues to strengthen Nokia’s leadership in imaging.”

Analysts, however, claimedthe Lumia alone cannot turn around Nokia's fortunes.

Daniel Gleeson, mobile analyst at IHS Electronics and Media said: "The issue for Nokia is that photography on smartphones is not just about having the best quality pictures. Sharing pictures to social networks is more important to most consumers than printing. High engagement levels means that convincing Instagram users to switch from iPhone or Android to Nokia's platform will be difficult.

"The lack of an Instagram app for Windows Phone also reinforces the fact that the platform is lagging in choice and quality of applications compared to iPhone or Android. Furthermore, the popularity of Instagram's filters again proves that absolute top rate picture quality is not actually important for the majority of users.”

Alongside the handset, Nokia also released a new imaging software development kit (SDK) that provides key image editing features of the Lumia 1020 to developers, and a camera grip allowing for hands-free photo taking, complete with built-in tripod mount.

Other features include increased battery life, the addition of popular apps Path and Flipboard being added to the Windows Phone app roster, and customers will be treated to an ad and subscription free Nokia Music streaming account.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will arrive first on US shores on July 26 for $299.99 on a two-year contract, and will make its way across to China and key European markets this quarter.

LG is showing off a new 5.2-inch LCD display that they claim holds the title of world's slimmest full HD display. Checking in at only 2.2mm in thickness, they also feature an ultra-slim 2.3mm bezel. This means your great-big smartphone can be a little less great-bog overall.

They credit their new technology, dubbed Advanced One-Glass-Solution, for enabling such a thin panel. It uses dual flexible printed circuits (opposed to a single circuit) that have been inserted between the glass itself and the touch film. This reduces the number of lines etched onto the panel circuit by more than 30-percent. In addition, LG is has a new bonding system using optically clear resin to mate it all together into one very thin piece.

These panels are said to offer superior visibility outdoors, along with a better contrast ratio and an increased brightness of 535 nits. The 1080x1920 panels are use a true RBG pixel layout -- none of that pentile silliness here. Combined, these features make the new panel outperform every other current HD LCD panel, and we don't have to take LG's word for it -- Intertek has officially certified the results.

Well, we know that it's a shame, but only if you own a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 device, you will be able to download the newly released FIFA 13 from the Windows Phone Store. Word is that graphics are nothing you've seen before, and the controls are said to be extremely precise. The new FIFA 13 includes around 500 licensed teams, which can participate in 30 leagues. Players have the vast database of 15,000 players at call and can make them sprint on 32 real-world stadiums. The price of the game is $4.99.

The Shield portable gaming console by NVIDIA is a peculiar device. Unlike most other members of the species, the gadget runs Android, meaning that it can be loaded with all kinds of games and applications straight from the Google Play store. Also, it can be used for all kinds of tasks you would usually do on a smartphone, such as checking email or browsing the web. Of course, all of the latest games are playable on it thanks to the Shield's powerful Tegra 4 chip paired with 2GB of RAM. Anyone who has been waiting to get one of these will be happy to know that NVIDIA has dropped the price of its Shield console. Initially expected to launch for $349, the portable gaming console is now on pre-order for a bit more acceptable $299 with a limit of 4 consoles per person. And for an extra $39.99 you can add a deluxe carrying case, while the custom tags to personalize your Shield with are priced at $19.99 apiece. A couple of full Android games come pre-loaded – Expendable: Rearmed and Sonic 4 Episode II THD. As for its hardware specs, the NVIDIA Shield comes with a 5-inch screen, the resolution of which is 720 by 1280 pixels. Tattoos like these could become passwords, credit cards

Motorola’s forthcoming phones could use electronic tattoos or pills to identify users, it has been announced.

' The technology, which aims to remove the need to enter passwords and replace them simply with a phone being close to a user’s body, was one of the suggestions Dennis Woodside, Motorola’s chief executive, California's D11 conference yesterday.

The tattoos have been developed by Massachusetts-based engineering firm MC10, and contain flexible electronic circuits that are attached to the wearer's skin using a rubber stamp.

Nokia has previously experimented with integrating tattoos into mobile phones, and Motorola's senior vice president of advance research, Regina Dugan, a former head of the US Pentagon's Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency, demonstrated the silicon-based technology that uses bendable electronic circuits. Initially designed for medical purposes, Motorola hopes the ‘Biostamps’ could now be used for consumer authentication purposes.

Motorola is also investigating the Proteus Digital Health pill, which has already been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and was given European regulatory approval in 2010. Its computer chip is powered by a battery using the acid in a user’s stomach.

The pill creates a unique signal like an ECG trace that can be picked up by devices outside the body and which could be used to verify a user’s identity. It can be taken daily for up to a month, it has been claimed.

Woodside admitted that such experimental ideas were not going to be on sale soon. But he claimed Motorola had “tested it authenticating a phone, and it works.'

The former Google employee, however, who was parachuted in to Motorola after its $12.5billion acquisition in 2011, said “Having the boldness to think differently about problems that everybody has every day is really important for Motorola now.'”

Dugan added “Authentication is irritating. In fact its so irritating only about half the people do it, despite the fact there is a lot of information about you on your smartphone, which makes you far more prone to identity theft.”

She said authentication takes 2.3 seconds each time for existing users, some of whom log in to their phones a 100 times a day and added Motorola would not be put off by those who felt that the new technologies were “creepy”.

Meanwhile, the Moto X phone, which will launch in October, will be struggling Motorola's first device to go on sale since its acquisition. It will know what you want to do before you do but cost significantly less than an iPhone, Motorola has claimed.

The phone, which is to largely be manufactured in America, will also use advanced sensors to anticipate user behaviour, Woodside said.

Without offering further details, he said the Moto X would change the way users “engage with how the devices are designed”, and that the “broadly distributed” phone would provide “experiences [that] are unlike other experiences out there.”

The device will also be an attempt to drive down prices of smartphones, and Woodside said the flagship device would compete with both top Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One as well as the iPhone, which is expected to be updated later this year.

Woodside said the Moto X “is more contextually aware of what’s going on around it. It allows you to interact with it more than other devices today. It anticipates my need”.

The device, which is likely to build on the features in Google’s ‘Now’ search product, will aim to predict what a user wants to do so that they do not waste time choosing it manually. Examples include automatically sensing a device is travelling at speed along a road and suggesting entering ‘car mode’ or making it faster to open the camera application.

Woodside added that Google wanted to sell the device at lower margins than companies such as Apple have become used to. Although he did not aim the iPhone specifically, he told the D11 conference, “Those products earn 50 per cent margins. We don’t necessarily have those constraints. Those [margins] will not persist.” He said that while computers and televisions had seen dramatic price drops in recent years, smartphones had yet to see such falls.

App of the week: 360 launcher

I came across this launcher and I have to say it's really really good. In app notifications, good themes and very easy use. Long pressing an app gives you the option of deleting it, moving it or getting info about it.











It's transition effects are applicable both on the desktop and in the main menu. Forget it's Chinese it is a really good app. The killer feature for me is this, when u swipe upward from the bottom edges of the screen on your desktop it brings up your most recent apps, most used apps and tools in a very sweet transition. I'm currently using this app and I have to say I don't think I'll be replacing it for a while. Another thing I have to add, it supports gingerbread upward. Good news aight?

Samsung bringing 5g to their new devices

The majority of the planet may still be trying to get to grips to 4G, and plenty of areas in technologically developed countries still don’t have even 3G, but that hasn’t stopped various carriers and smartphone manufacturers from working on coming up with the fifth generation of mobile data, or 5G.

With mobile data becoming more and more integral to the way we consume information as well as being the cornerstone of many a business, the scramble for ever increasing mobile data speeds has seen development of 5G begin even while 4G is still a pipe dream for many. Samsung is one company poking its nose into the future with 5G, and it has today announced that it has successfully run tests that have achieved a whopping 1Gbps download speed, with more potentially to come.

The test, using the 28 GHz waveband and 64 different antenna elements, took place at a time that Samsung is claiming that the technology could theoretically achieve tens of gigabits per second, but we’ll settle for just the one right now!

To put that 1Gbps speed into context, the theoretical maximum we should expect from the currently rolling out 4G technology is around 75Mbps, and that’s generally considered to be pretty speedy! Samsung may not expect to get its G technology into the hands of customers until around the 2020 time frame, but we’re just happy to know it’s being worked on. The European Commission’s aim to have 5G ready around the same time fits in nicely, too.

Samsung isn’t the only one currently testing 5G data, with NTT DoCoMo announcing a few months ago that it too had performed successful tests of its own fifth generation technology. It claimed to have achieved 10Gbps using a car full of antennas utilizing the 400MHz spectrum. That’s two big players duking it out in the speed stakes, we wonder who’ll be next. Probably not T-Mobile or Sprint!

We’re still waiting for 4G to become prevalent across the globe, so we won’t count our chickens just yet. Still, any progress is good progress, so we’ll take what we can get. Just don’t expect the next iPhone or Galaxy S to have a 5G badge on it any time soon!

Yet another interesting rumor about the Samsung Galaxy Note III has hit us today. We've already heard that Samsung might be planning a 6" display for its new phablet, but SamMobile is now adding a whole new perspective to the story. According to the source, Samsung is to equip the Note III with the world's first plastic OLED screen. The plastic substrate will allow to company to make the whole device significantly thinner and lighter than the current handsets with glass substrate.


Samsung fan-site, SamMobile, believes that thanks to this, the Note III will have a thickness of just 0.31" (8mm). In contrast, the Note II is 0.37" (9.4mm) thick. An additional bonus is said to be the presence of a bigger battery, due to the thinner display panel, though that seems a bit strange, since if Samsung decides to fill the newly freed space with more battery, then how is the device itself going to be that much thinner? We wouldn't be surprised if Samsung goes for some kind of middle ground, with a slightly thinner Note III and a slightly bigger battery.

Another characteristic of this new plastic OLED would be that it's very, very tough. This kind of display is actually being called "unbreakable" by some, though we all know that there are few things in this world that our clumsy hands cannot break.

We all saw how quickly 2GB of the stuff became the high-end norm, so if this is true, we could expect other top-shelf models to follow suit.

The Samsung GALAXY Note III is expected to feature a 5.99 inch FHD screen. Under the hood is the octa-core Samsung Exynos 5410 processor containing a 2.0GHz quad-core A15 CPU and a 1.7GHz quad-core A7 CPU. The aforementioned 3GB of RAM is inside along with 32GB of native storage. The latter can be expanded thanks to the microSD slot on the device and Android 4.2.2 is pre-installed out of the box.

China's MyDrivers has a picture showing the Samsung GALAXY Note II alongside a device that allegedly is the Samsung GALAXY Note III. Based on our chart (see below), the pictured device doesn't swamp the Samsung GALAXY Note II like the Samsung Galaxy Mega series does. But the model number that is printed with the device, GT-i9500, is the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S4, which the device in the picture clearly is not. So we are skeptical about the photo, and continue to wonder whether the Korean OEM will be releasing the model using a different material other than plastic.

The Samsung GALAXY Note III is sure to be released with these specs cos  we all know Samsung likes to do it big hopefully everybody will be happy with it.

How to Root Tecno N7:
Note: Rooting your Tecno N7 will void its warranty and you are solely responsible for your actions, I will not be held responsible for your device getting bricked due to errors on ur part.
1. To root your Tecno N7 phone, you will need the following programs – SuperOneClick and Unlock Root Downloader.
2. Install both applications on your computer and connect your Tecno N7 to your computer on a debuggin mode. To put your Tecno N7 on Debugging mode simply go to Settings > Developer Options > Debugging > USB Debugging and enable it.
3. Your device drivers will be updated at this point, else launch the SuperOneClick program and you will be prompted to install the drivers, you should select ‘Yes’ to install the Tecno N7 USB drivers. Disconnect and reconnect your Tecno N7 once the drivers installation has been completed, you won’t be required to install any drivers at this stage.
4. On the SuperOneClick program, click on ‘Root’ and allow the software to root your Tecno N7. On completion, you will be notified that your Tecno n7 has been Rooted. You should restart your phone at this point.
5. Launch the Unlock Root Downloader program you installed earlier on your computer, Click on Root and you will be warned that your Tecno N7 has been rooted, ignore this warning and proceed, after a while you will be notified of successfully rooting your Tecno N7 phone.
6. Then disconnect your Tecno n7 from your computer and download Root Checker and SuperUser apps from Google Play Store. While the Root Checker will help you validate if your Tecno N7 has been properly rooted, the SuperUser app will help you manage apps with Superuser privileges.
VERY IMPORTANT: YOU SHOULD ALLOW USB DEBUGGING AND INSTALLATION OF APPS FROM UNKNOWN SOURCES.
